HOT, SPICY, COLORFUL, VIBRANT. 

After all of the places I’ve lived and loved, San Antonio holds a special place in my heart. It is the city where my father’s family immigrated to when they fled Puebla, Mexico under the threat of assassination. Most of our family escaped, but my Great Uncle Fortunato Maycotte was not so fortunate as his name may have implied, as he was captured as a resistor of the Álvaro Obregón reign and killed by firing squad in 1924.

In their bed clothes and with a trunk of money under their little feet, my grandmother, only 3 years old, and her sisters, left Puebla on a train in the middle of the night heading towards San Antonio.
